Digital Tattoos..Leaving your piece of history behind.

When I think of Digital Tattoos, I always think back to the people who choose to put their entire life on the internet for everyone to see. My meme that I created shares my opinion on the matter. I have a social media app called Timehop that pulls up old pictures and social media posts from years past. I am always so embarrassed by the song lyrics and awkward teenage quotes that I find that I shared over the years. I then remember that I started social media when I was still in high school, and the social media universe was a very different thing. I am now much smarter about what I choose to post on different social media platforms.

However, I still see people I am friends with write and post the most ridiculous things on their social media accounts. I'm often times unsure if they got the digital tattoo memo that everything you post on the internet stays there forever no matter what you try to do. I have this same conversation with my Jr. High basketball players. They often post the most ridiculous and random things, often oversharing all the details about their life, and I try to explain to them that anyone can see what they post if they actually try. I had to learn from my mistakes as I began to look back on what I posted and regret the pictures I shared or the things I wrote.

I enjoy social media for what it is worth to me. I think it is a great place to share life events with family members near and far. I also think it is a great place to find funny material to make your day a little better. 1. Stephanie,
I agree individuals should consider what they post because it is someone else's entertainment.

  2. Hi Stephanie,
I completely agree with you. I am not on social media much. I never have been. I think "oversharing" is part of the reason why I tend to avoid it. It is very difficult to help students today understand that it's important to be careful about "oversharing" . Thanks for sharing!

  3. Hello Stephanie,
Thanks for sharing! I totally agree with you about the oversharing! I had to unfollow so many friends from high school because of all the oversharing. I'm at the age where everyone I know is having a billion babies. It ranges from the people that never announced that they even had a baby to the people sharing about every eye booger and diaper change. It's too much. The memes are a great way to express how you feel about social media. Thanks.
